Planning commi8ssion experts have said Rs.32 a day is the cut off for urban poverty.
This has been practically experienced and analysed by Mr.T.V.Mahalingam of Economic Times at Mumbai to conclude whether this amount is really enough or not.

The wise men and women of the Planning Commission had told the Supreme Court that that anybody who spends RS.33 or more a day in citiies is not poor and hence not eligible for a below poverty line (BPL), which lets the poor avail services like medical care for free.
Mr. Mahalingam got into the shoe of a common man and spend the money for the daily requirement inclydes travel and food cost alone. In the urban area, one has to move around for their daily employment. Travel Rs.20 and one meal for Rs.15 and breakfast Rs.8 nad a banana Rs. 6. Totally Rs.43 wothout Dinner and no care for people at home.

So as per the suggerstion from Economic Times, the planning commission should revise the maximum amount for urban BPL.
