Supreme court decision

Supreme court decision

Postby vsncas » August 19th, 2011, 10:03 am

Most of the states follow the allotment of general quota to the meritorious students from all categories as per the rank.. All categories mean forward, backward, Most backward, Scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. Yesterday, Supreme court announced that the allotment shall be strictly confined to the respective categories, if the candidates submits application under the respective category.

In other words, a meritorious student from MBC will no longer considered under general category. So quota under gerneral category will be available fully to the forward community category. It is really a set back to the debate for economic parameters for quota allotment. With due respect to the Supreme Court decision, the government should consider a provision to accomodate meritorious student under general category.

What is this?

Postby KALYANASUNDARAM » August 20th, 2011, 4:06 pm

How relevant is today's quota system in education?
Thousands of Engineering seats are lying vacant. There are no takers. In institutes like CA, ICWA, ACS no quota system is followed. Only qualification is needed. Only qualified people are successful. In medical colleges, whatever be your community, 95% + marks, will be the criteria. In the job market, everything is in the hands of MNCs and the private sector.
Why should people be divided into forward, backward, most backward and so on. What is forwardness? What is backwardness? What is most backwardness? Who will explain all this?
Did we know all these divisions, when we were in schools and colleges? When will all this stop? Will "Annas" look into this?
Can anyone explain the chances of an MBC / BC / OC/ SC /ST, getting into CTS/ TCS / INFOSYS / IBM on the strength of his communal quota? What are the chances of MBCs /BCs /OCs/ SCs and STs , going to US/Australia/Singapore/Japan/German/England on the strength of their communities.
Why even well educated people, learned people, highly placed people believe these political gimmicks.
I accept that AD / ST communities need some consideration and backing. But other communities do not need any kind of support. Let there be no such divisions among people.
We are all people and people of India.

Merit

Postby KALYANASUNDARAM » August 20th, 2011, 4:17 pm

What is merit? Who is a meritorious student?
A student who scores 200 marks in Maths in +2 in Tamil Nadu, is not able to score 40 marks in the I year of Engineering course. This is not my statement, but a study by Anna University, published in the dailies. Can you be sure of getting whatever course you want, if you score 95%+, in Tamil Nadu. Can a student who scores 95%+ get a B.Com seat in the college he prefers.
So don't believe all these gimmicks. Believe in hard work and there is no substitute to hard work.
Preach this to the younger India.
