Next Big reform

Mr. Minhaz Merchant, chairman, Merchant Media expressed his view in Economic Times dt. 29.08.11. I fully agree with his views. I reproduce extract of some part of his article for ready reference:

"....Apart from a pragmatic but sinewy lokpal bill, six other political reforms are needed to liberate Indian Governance from atavistic, 19th century colonial laws. The six reforms fall into three broad categories: Police, Judicial and Electroal ........"

Among them, police reform carries the promise of the greatest impact on citizens' day to-day lives. As per the seminal order by the Supreme Court in Sep 2006, one of the directive mandate is to set up State Securuity Commission to ensure police is freed from politica influence and each DGP of the state to be appointed for minimum two years.

These directives will certainly given the expected result in line with the functioning of Election commission. Only by wrenching control of law enforcement away from politicians will we have an effective, modern and accountable police force.
